Chapter 1

As an introductory chapter, I enjoyed it. It established the setting, some key characters, and an important event that affects them. A few things stood out to me though:   During my first read through, mentioning the wind and that it had been snowing for three weeks did not really convey to me the true extent of the effects the weather must have had on the farmstead. You could really lean into that and have the characters different view points tell/show the reader how bad that storm/winter is. I think this chapter could have used a lot more of that atmospheric build up and possibly leave us with the avalanche and the dragon leaping into action at the end— perhaps even making his intentions ambiguous for the moment. Of course I say all this before reading on to chapter two!   Also, fresh hay three weeks into a massive snow storm. I'm no farmer, but it did spark the question of "How?" in my mind. Maybe it's the last of the most recent supply they had and the animals won't enjoy it as much as they once did. Maybe elaborate how it's still fresh? Or even point out that calling it fresh hay at this point was a stretch. Details like that are an opportunity to world build and help add realism and personality, immersing the reader further.   Otherwise, I'm interested in reading further!
